Debbie Lord (Mother: Isabelle)

By sitemanager

Debbie Lord’s mother, Isabelle, entered Pine Valley Community Village’s Rehabilitation and Therapy after she suffered a broken hip in 2014. She stayed for about three months. This was her second experience here, with the first one at an earlier time following a broken pelvic bone.

Debbie says that her mother liked the stay at Pine Valley. And the family—Debbie has four brothers—is very happy with the care that Isabelle received. Last year, when her arthritis started causing problems in daily living, which in turn caused her not to eat well and to experience anxiety about her ability to care for herself, Debbie and the family looked into assisted living options for Isabelle. It was a difficult decision to move to assisted living, but when Isabelle was ready, she said she wanted to move back to Pine Valley Community Village. She liked it there. The day that she moved in, Isabelle said, “I’m not even going to turn around and look back.”

Isabelle’s family has been very happy with her choice. Isabelle is eating better and has put some much-needed weight back on. Isabelle used to own a supper club, and even today she and Debbie enjoy looking at recipes together.

Isabelle already knew some of the employees and one of them was Debbie’s best friend from childhood. Another, Rosie, is “like a daughter” to Isabelle. And Rhonda, who the family knows, is “such a hard worker and good with Mom.” When Rhonda was out, Isabelle couldn’t wait for her to get back. She calls Rhonda her “mom” and that warms Debbie’s heart. The head nurse, Rachel, talks with Isabelle about sports. Debbie says that having these caretakers on site and knowing they take such good care of her mom makes all the difference in the world.

The things that Debbie likes best about Pine Valley include quality of care and the people who work there. It’s a beautiful facility, but it’s the care provided by the staff that is most important. Debbie likes that Isabelle has the best of both—great care and a lovely home.

As Debbie says, “For us, the stress of the world is lifted. We know she’s getting round-the-clock care and don’t worry about her falling. What a blessing.”
